Literacy, Math, Science and Social Studies         

Participants:         

•  show improved academic performance in subjects that require reading comprehension, writing, math skills, science, and social studies knowledge

•  increase language arts skills including speaking, listening, reading comprehension, and writing

•  increase their use of computers to communicate and learn new information

•  enjoy reading, talking about what they have read, and telling stories from a beginning, middle, and end

•  increase ability to collect, analyze and present data using technology


Homework Success

Participants:

•  complete homework assignments and turn them in regularly

•  connect homework effort and completion to class/school success

•  show improved performance on class tests

•  attend homework program as needed


Social and Emotional: Social Skills, Leadership, and Behavior

Participants:

•  are more involved with school and community

•  form friendships with peers

•  show improved interactions with adult outside of the program

•  make informed educational and career aspiration decisions

•  improve sense of personal efficacy

•  improve ability to learn from successes and failures

•  exhibit greater confidence in handling challenging situations in a productive manner

•  avoid use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs

•  decrease violent and criminal activities

•  decrease behavior referrals in school (detention, suspension)

•  increase pro-social behaviors and activities.


Health & Safety: Nutrition, Health, Physical Development, and Personal Safety

Participants:

•  show increased healthy choices in food selection in and out of school

•  show improved health

•  understand the need for balanced, varied diet based on the food pyramid

•  understand the implications of participating in potential unhealthy behaviors

•  develop sportsmanship as a spectator and a participant

•  develop interest in sustaining physical activity

•  improved feelings of personal safety in school and in the community

•  decrease feelings if victimization in school and in the community


Community Engagement

Participants:

•  increase appreciation/pride in the community

•  demonstrates more evidence of civic skills

•  increase involvement in community through leadership opportunities

•  increase involvement in the democratic processes


Visual and Performing Arts

Participants:

•  improve use of the arts of personal expression, and fulfilling personal and social goals

•  show use of varied arts skills

•  increase interest in and enjoyment of the arts
